Khatev’s Chin Vs. The power of Morrell
Teddy Atlas predicts that IMAM Khataev will “test” David Morrell on Saturday night at their 10 -round lightweight heavyweight on July 12th at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Atlas watched some of Khatev’s 2020 Olympic bronze medal, and states that he has a good jaw. He may be able to take Morrell’s power.
Morrell (11-1, 9 ko) is stepping back in with world-class competition after being lost to David Benavidez last February. Former Morrell’s two divisions world champion does not believe in undertaking weak opposition afterwards. He wants to prove his doubts wrong and put himself in a position to fight for a world title as quickly as possible. Morrell says he would be open to a second opportunity with Benavidez “100%.”
Morrell’s punching power
“I think Morrell gets a test here. It may depend on how well Khataev’s jaw has. What I’ve seen from Khataev is that he has a good jaw. Have I seen being hit by Morrell? No,” said Teddy Atlas on her channell. “Morrell is a little better puncher than I have seen striking with. Morrell’s talent will probably show himself.”
Khataev’s opposition like Pro has been terrible. Despite his Olympic background, Khataev’s control has chosen to match him as a green hope. For waste, as Khtaev was 27 when he turned in pro. That’s not young for a person who comes into the professional ranks. It should have been quickly tracked instead of mating against tomato cans for the past four years.
“I think Fighting Benavidez is a teaching experience for David Morrell, who was inexperienced in terms of the general record and standard of competition that David Benavidez provides,” said commentator Chris Mannix to Dazn’s boxing Towards battle on Saturday between David Morrell and Imam Khaev.
Benavidez’s fighting showed Morrell and his coach that he can’t pass with a single shots at light heavy weight. Too many combination -oriented fighters punch the way Benvidez does, and Morrell can’t afford to throw one at a time, hoping he can score hit out. His power is not the same at 175 as he was 168.
Benavidez Morrell Fighting Lessons
“Morrell was not distributed in that fight. He was competitive throughout and can be beaten by the best man in 175. David Benavidez is elite,” said Mannix. “I think it’s going to be a better fighter as a result. When you face that kind of competition, it can only help you as a fighter.”
Morrell knows that shells against the ropes cannot and allow Khataev to download on it with his best power punch as he did against Benavidez. That was a mistake. We saw Morrell doing that time and time again against ‘The Mexican Monster.’
He allowed Benavidez to get the upper hand by throwing fast combinations and not answering back with his own. The large occasional blow that Morrell threw between them was not enough.
