Keith Thurman warns Bill Haney: Devin Haney is in danger of welter weight
Keith Thurman says he warned Bill Haney that he was going to have his son, Devin Haney, hurt by moving up to the weight of a welter to take on the fighters in this weight class.
Chin Devin: Doubts 147-Pwys
Thurman believes that Haney (32-0, 15 ko) does not have the punch resistance, the power or the murderer instinct to compete with 147 lbs.
Devin, 26, will face Brian Norman Jr for his WBO welter weight title on November 22nd at Anb Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Haney is the favorite, but that doesn’t mean anything. Fans consider this as a lack of analogy, with Norman JR beating Haney out in a vicious manner at some point.
“I told Bill he’s going to get his son hurt to move up to 147. I said, ‘Bill, stop him. You’re going to get your son to hurt,” said Keith Thurman Millcity Boxing About his warning to Bill Haney not to let his son, Devin, move up to a welter weight to mix with the big sanctions. “
Garcia Fighting: Haney’s weakness revealed
You could see from Haney’s battle against Ryan Garcia who can’t take a punch, as he was repeatedly hurt in that fight. Every time Garcia taped Devin, he would wander, and the only reason he was not cast out was because the referee had decided to take a point away from Ryan in the seventh. Devin was ready to go in that round.
If Haney wasn’t so rich and was offered mega-money to fight Brian Norman Jr for his WBO welter weight title, he would have remained 140 for the rest of his career. He would not have moved up to 147, knowing he would fight harder punchers in that weight class.
“Playing with Fire”: Haney’s 147-Power Gambling
“I said, ‘Your boy at 147, you play with fire. You’re going to get hurt.’ If you want to know how good a fighter is, you look at how well they take a punch.
Haney will probably win a title at some point in 147, because he was going to be moved to win a belt by his handlers, just like what was done in 135 and 140. He did not fight for anyone good to win his titles in those weight classes.
He was promoted for his light title WLGA, then picked up the IBF, WBA, and WBO belts by George Kambosos Jr. He won his 140-weight title CLLC of Regis Program, the weakest link among the belt holders at the time.
If Haney is matched against the winner of Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios, he has a good chance of winning a 147 -lbs CLC belt. Both are beating against many other fighters in the welterweight section, but Haney is popular enough to have a chance to fight for that belt. Even if he loses to Norman JR on November 22nd, he is likely to have a chance.
