McGfern told the sixth page that she had developed interest in Gardner for the first time when she “stumbled” on Tommy Evan.

“This gave me the idea that it may be a great play; these two people are trying to extract the story of one of their lives,” she explained. “This has started a full process to look at the films of Ava Gardner and know (more) about it, which was a research process for me.”
