Community Raises $280,000 for Beloved Doctor Facing Cancer

Over the past forty years, Dr. Michael Zollicoft – known as Dr. Z by his patients – his life to care for population in the most achieved Baltimore neighborhoods. Whether they are able to pay or not, it has never sent anyone, driven by a simple passion for helping others. Unfortunately, the 66-year-old family doctor became sick with himself after diagnosing two types of cancer-classification and rectum.

In addition to his diagnoses, Zollicoffeer discovered that he had no insurance due to a problem with medical care papers. He had no way to pay the radiation treatments heavily he needed, which cost about $ 150,000. Fortunately, one of his high school friends, Michael Hayni, started Gofundme campaignHis community rose to help.

In just a short time, more than 3,400 people donated to help Zollicoffeer, and raised more than $ 280,000 to support him during his need. Many individuals who also donated their gratitude for the good intention of Zollicoffer over the years. One of the people who donated $ 1,000 wrote, “I want to stop a moment to express my deepest gratitude for all the care, sympathy and dedication that I have shown to my son. I have caused your kindness and patience such a difference in our lives, and we are incredibly lucky to your presence as a doctor.” Another person wrote, “Doctor Zi has inspired me to go forward. I really regained my faith in humanity.”

Zollicoffer has received the treatment he needs and is expected to completely recover. In addition, it has been re -secured, and it is now planning to use any remnants of the group financing campaign to support the community.

“You know what, I will say something might look crazy.” He said. “I am grateful because I had cancer, because I am the happiest man on this planet, regardless of the result. What we have shown, and why we sit on this schedule now, to show America: this is what you are!
