Beterbiev and Bivol trilogy moves to Russia: Both fighter prioritizes a profitable hometown for Riyadh

Artur Beterbiev and IBF, WBA, and lightweight heavyweight promoter WBO Dmitry Bivol will not fight against their November trilogy game as planned. They have chosen to fight in Russia at a date and location that is still determined.

New Organizer, Russian Pay Day

Mike Coppinger Reports That Turki Alalshikh will not be involved. He founded the first Beterbiev-Bivol fights, and both were staged in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Coppinger says a different organizer has “promised them profitable pay days.”

It’s hard to imagine that they can make more money than Turki would pay. They were said to have won $ 10 million each for their two fights in Riyadh. Russia is the homeland of Bivol and Beterbiev.

Bivol (24-1, 12 ko) still lives there. So, it makes sense he wants him at home. He will not have to travel to Riyadh for the trilogy.

IBF Bivol Title Risk

The IBF is mandatory is supposed to get Bivol for the challenger Michael Eifrt. Bivol was already drawn from his WLGC title earlier this year when he chose not to defend against his compulsory David Benavidez. It could be removed from its IBF belt if it does not protect against next eurot, which is not likely to do.

Bivol would still have two belts of their protection against Beterbiev (21-1, 20 kos) for the trilogy. Given the popularity of both fighter and their achievements, it does not matter whether there are any titles at stake for their third fighting. Fans will still want to see them fight, especially in their hometown.

Fan fatigue with trilogy

US boxing fans wanted to see Beterbiev and Bivol take a break of fighting each other and let someone else get a chance. It is not so interesting for people to see the same fighters battling three times straight without facing others between them. Trilogy games are fine, but not when the fighting takes place in a row.

There was a lot of interest in David Benavidez having the opportunity to challenge for the WBC title hosted by Bivol when it became compulsory for that belt. But rather than defending against him, Bivol chose not to fight and force the WBC to remove it. Some fans believe Bivol is afraid to lose to Benavidez because he is a weight fighter and has problems against those types.
